Website Design Day Proposal FAQs

If you can't find your answer here, please email me.

design day

What if I have questions about the proposal?

That’s absolutely fine. We would prefer that you are 100% happy with the proposal as it is your project. We can adjust, add to, or take away anything within the proposal to suits your needs and budget. Just get in touch!

Do I need to be available on the day?

Yes, please! We’ll kick off at 9am AEST with an optional Zoom meeting to go over your direction. If Zooms aren’t your style, you’re welcome to send an email or Loom detailing each task or the direction you envisage.

To make the most of our time together, you will be required to be available via Google Chat or Microsoft Teams as I may send you questions or thoughts for clarity and will need your feedback fast.

Will you write the words for my website?

No, the Design Intensive Day is exclusively available for design tasks. We can provide you with a Google Doc to help you write your own copy. Or if you’d like to outsource, I have amazing copywriters I can recommend, who I know will take excellent care of you

If I have copy for my website will you upload it for me?

Yes! You’ll have a due date to submit this prior to your Design Intensive Day.

What do I need ready for the day?

Your visual brand guide and files (including web logo files in .PNG + .JPG, web colour codes in HEX, and font web files in .WOFF), copy and high-res imagery. That’s it!

Simply pop it in Google Drive, Google Docs or Dropbox and email through to me, or upload to your Client Portal. You’ll have a due date to have this to me by, and I can’t accept additional content on the day. Instead, placeholders will be used for you to replace or edit later.

What if I want revisions?

Your design day comes with one revision. Any further changes can be scheduled in another half or full design day.

What happens after the website is launched?

Once your website is launched, we will provide 90 days of support to make sure any bugs have been ironed out and that you are confident using your new website. After this, we encourage you to subscribe to one of our ongoing website care plans to make sure your website is looked after and maintained. These website care plans include updating your software, regular backups, security checks and making sure your website is online.

More information on our website care plans can be found here: https://blackcactusdigital.com/website-maintenance-packages/

What’s the process if I want to add some features to the website while you’re building it?

Whilst we like to be flexible and responsive to your needs, we also like to deliver what we promise within the time frames and budgets we have allowed. If you ask us to add new features to your website while we are building it, we will most likely ask why. If we all agree that your new request will help us achieve our objectives then we will be more than happy to oblige. If your new feature is something you would like to add to your website but is not directly tied to your original objectives then we will suggest to schedule it for a second iteration of the website once it has been launched. This will require a new proposal.

Who do I contact if something goes wrong with the website or I can’t figure something out?

Provided you subscribe to one of our ongoing website care plans, we will be your first point of call should something go wrong with your website. We will determine whether it is something the hosting company needs to fix or something that is covered by your website care plan. We will provide a huge range of video tutorials to assist you in using your website once it is launched.

Why do you use WordPress?

WordPress is open source content management software and currently powers around 25% of all websites on the Internet. The project is contributed to by tens of thousands of developers all over the world and is growing from strength to strength. WordPress allows us to develop flexible and customisable websites to modern standards and observes web development best practices. Furthermore the community of web developers that use WordPress reaches far and wide and allows us to tap in to this collective intelligence and bring that wealth of experience to your project.

Will you show me how to update my website?

Yes! Your Design Intensive Day comes with a video tutorial library showing you exactly how to update your website.

Where is the website hosted?

All websites require website hosting. This is like cloud storage space for your website, so people can access your site online from anywhere anytime. Not all web hosts are made equal though. I know you’re serious about your business, we only recommend quality and specialist WordPress hosting providers. The hosting we provide is through a high quality Aussie hosting Provider – Synergy Wholesale. Otherwise, VentraIP (Another Aussie Host and Synergy’s sister company), SiteGround or WP Engine are among my very select handful. You can choose between any of these hosts or if you’d like we can discuss other suitable hosting options. Please note, if you choose not to host through us, any hosting issues will need to be directed to your chosen host, not through us.

How long will it take to appear at the top of Google?

The time it takes for your website to appear on page 1 of Google depends on a number of factors, including the search phrase (keywords) people are using to find your website and the number of other websites that are also targeting those keywords. Nobody can truly say how long it will take for your website to appear at the top of search engine results pages or if you will (including people who actually work for Google), however, there are a number of factors that can improve your chances. Building your website on WordPress is a good start as WordPress has some great Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) fundamentals built-in. Creating unique and interesting content on a regular basis for your site is also crucial to increase your visibility on search engines. Launching your website and then forgetting about it is a sure-fire way to get lost amongst the noise.
We’re happy to chat with you about your search engine strategy if we haven’t already. Just get in touch.

How will I know if anyone is visiting my website?

Google Analytics software will be installed on your website and we’ll show you how to log into your Google Analytics account where you can see a range of stat about your website including the number of visits, page views and the amount of time people are spending on difference pages of your site.
Your website care plan reports will also provide you with a detailed analysis of your site’s performance and any recommendations on how to improve.
